George A. Jones

George A. Jones. Brigadier General, NYG (Retired) is a veteran of thirty-one years in the military. He served In the European Theatre of Operations and the Pacific during World War II and subsequently in the Far East during the Korean War.


He is a retired New York City Fire-fighter. During his twenty years in the NYC-Fire Department, he was twice President of the Vulcan Society, the first organization of Black Firemen in the United States.


He was in the employ of Nassau County for thirty-one years and served in the Labor Department as Job Developer and Director, On-the-Job Training for the Physically Handicapped, in the Department of Commerce and Industry as Coordinator of Minority Business Enterprises and subsequently Director Equal Opportunity Employment and Minority Business Enterprise Officer. For many years, prior to receiving a Citation from President Reagan for work in the area of Minority Business Development, he filled positions as a principal administrator, bookkeeper and fiscal officer in various organizations securing business and construction loans, supervising construction and renovations projects.
